Via trust, interoperability and federated structures

Position Paper

Data acquires value when it is enriched with context, making it understandable, shareable and capable of generating new insights. In agriculture, this can support farmers in improving efficiency, making better-informed decisions and enhancing economic performance and environmental sustainability.

In its new position paper, CEMA highlights the importance of farmer control, consent-based data sharing and interoperability, and advocates for a federated approach to data spaces. Federated data spaces allow data to remain at its point of origin while being accessed and shared securely within a common framework, supporting resilience, scalability and efficiency.

The paper also highlights the importance of trust, security and fairness by design, and looks at how industry-led initiatives such as the Agricultural Interoperability Network (AgIN) and broader initiatives such as the Common European Agricultural Data Space (CEADS) can contribute to trusted and interoperable agricultural data exchange.
