CEMA is greatly concerned by Brexit and its potentially adverse economic consequences on the agricultural machinery industry and the farming community. In a position click here released to stakeholders last November, CEMA calls for a comprehensive trade agreement, continued regulatory cooperation & a balanced UK National Agricultural Policy (NAP).

Negotiations are moving forward on the Brexit Withdrawal Agreement, on a transition period, and on the future EU27-UK relationship. On March 22-23, EU leaders are expected to adopt guidelines on the future EU27-UK relationship at European Council meeting.

Recently, the European Commission published slides from a debate on the internal EU27 preparatory discussions on the framework for the future relationship: "Regulatory issues". The slides look at regulatory issues in general: regulatory issues in free trade agreements and at the specific sectors of the automotive sector, chemicals/REACH, trade in agri-food products and sanitary & phytosanitary provisions.

In addition, the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Internal-Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs published a notice regarding the legal repercussions of Brexit on the rules governing the type approval of motor vehicles. CEMA received confirmation that comparable notices will be published for agricultural and forestry vehicles, two, three-wheeled vehicles and quadricycles and non-road mobile machinery.
