On 21-22 of March the second Smart-AKIS Transnational Innovation Workshop has been held in Novi Sad (Serbia) at the premises of the BioSense Institute. Following the success of the first Transnational Workshop held in Pamplona in last November, the Smart-AKIS partners proposed again the participatory approach already experimented and validated during the last 3 years.

CEMA, as a project partner, participated and contributed to the organization of the 2 days event. That was the opportunity for CEMA to mobilise its network and participate actively in this event, increasing research opportunities under H2020 and strengthening the agricultural machinery industry voice in Europe.

Thanks also to the support of Federunacoma, the Italian Agricultural Machinery Manufacturers Federation, one delegate from the Italian SME Salvarani Srl (Federunacoma member) attended the open sessions.

The meeting opened in the morning of the 21st with a joint plenary session in which other two interesting initiatives have been presented: the Antares project, coordinated by the University of Novi Sad, and the AgroSense platform, developed by the BioSense Institute for supporting crop monitoring and planning in Serbia. During this first morning session, the Smart-AKIS partners had the possibility of networking with such initiatives, listening to questions raised by Serbian farmers present at the event, and eventually cross-fertilizing ideas with the ANTARES project.

Smart-AKIS Workshop on Fostering the adoption of Smart Farming in Europe

Day 1. This workshop aimed at facilitating the discussion and brainstorming about the barriers hindering the adoption of Smart Farming Technologies in Europe. Around 40 participants attended the workshop moderated by the Smart-AKIS partners (CEMA, INI and ACTA), to exchange the view of the different stakeholders involved in the project - industry, farmers, researchers and advisors - about the potentials of Smart Farming Technologies. The outcomes of the workshop will be used as inputs for the documents to be validated at the Smart-AKIS Final Conference (Brussels, 27/06/2018).

Smart-AKIS Collaborative Workshop

Day 2. The event was mainly devoted to a participatory moment during which Smart-AKIS stakeholders had the opportunity to present their project ideas through five poster sessions, and discuss of potential collaborationtogether with the Smart-AKIS partners. Poster sessions were organized around some of the most promising and innovative ideas coming from the Smart-AKIS network, covering the topics of:

  • sensors
  • imagery based decision support tools for fertilization
  • decision support tools and knowledge exchange
  • crop protection
  • and smart irrigation systems

At the end of the exchange, the participants had the opportunity to network and develop synergies and joint initiatives for promoting their innovation, taking advice from the Smart-AKIS partners as for the possible sources of funding.

The event ended with the internal Smart-AKIS project meeting, where project’s progress and next steps has been discussed in order to get ready for the Smart-AKIS Final Conference that will be organized in Brussels on the 27thof June.
