CEMApεdia: Inter-Service Consultation (ISC)

The Inter-Service Consultation (ISC) is one of the last steps in the process of adopting a new EU legislative measure by the European Commission. During the Inter-Service Consultation, the Directorate-General in charge of drafting the new piece of legislation circulates the entire draft proposal to all the other departments (Directorates-General) of the European Commission that could be interested in (or affected by) it. The Directorates-General are then given a limited period of 2 or 3 weeks time to provide comments on the proposal and give their approval (or not). After the Inter-Service Consultation and the incorporation of possible comments, the proposal is then finalized for official adoption by the European Commissioners.
