CEMApεdia: ENVI Committee

It is the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food safety. Consisting of 68 Members of the European Parliament (EP) from the different political groups. It is served by a secretariat of 10 administrators.

Each EP Committee has a chairman, a rapporteur and shadow rapporteurs. The latter are often from other Committee in order to check the overlap with other issues. The rapporteur has a great influence and will draft the subsequent draft proposals based on the given input. The members of each Committee are selected by the Political parties on the basis of their competence. These members will follow very closely all the Committee issues for their party. Any actions towards convincing a party goes preferably through these Committee members

The ENVI Committee is responsible for (only the items important to our sector are given):

 

1.       environmental policy and environmental protection measures, in particular concerning:

·         air, soil and water pollution, waste management and recycling, dangerous substances and preparations, noise levels, climate change, protection of biodiversity,

·         sustainable development,

·         international and regional measures and agreements aimed at protecting the environment,

 

2.       public health, in particular:

·         programmes and specific actions in the field of public health,
